Beauty MUA must haves My thoughts as a Makeup artist

How To Choose A MUA & Client Advice!

Today was a very busy as well as interesting day to say the least. I began my day at 6:30am with a slight beat and an iced caramel macchiato from McDonald’s to begin what I thought would be a beautiful day.

I had an early morning call time of 8am to begin makeup for a small bridal party. Weddings are both a joy and honor to work. I began my craft as I was hired to do… loving every moment of glamming women for what should be a joyous occasion. Only to be to told, by someone other than those receiving services, that the women looked “horrible” and “yucky”. I was mortified by the words… because I saw nothing but beauty. Mind you, that every artist has a style. My style is full glam (as you can tell from my website) though I keep the eyes simple and skin perfected for the bridal party as not to upstage the bride and also to keep watch of time.

Though I felt that delivery of the negative statements was just awful… I always respect others and their right to opinion. So I did the only thing I could do… pack up!

Though, still feeling weirded out, I still apologized that my services weren’t what they expected (though my work is heavily displayed online).

My advice to other MUAs would be to make sure that the perspective client is familiar with your style, besure to work out any special requests before services are to be rendered.

Clients seeking an MUA, please do your homework! Checkout the artists work before sitting in their chair! Workout and speak of any special requests before the date.

Brides should always take advantage of Bridal Trials, this is for your best interest. This way you aren’t hit with any surprises on your wedding day.  You and the artist can work together in creating your ideal look.

Despite that mishap today, I had 4 other happy clients. Though there will be times that you feel like you can’t or didn’t please, just know that there are more wins than there are losses. Stay focused, stay motivated, and stay passionate…

Never let a few bad experiences ruin the plan or knock you off your game.

Xoxo, Mesha
